sakhile

Sakhile registered onto the Access to Work Programme in late April of this year. She has one young child and had never worked in either the UK or in her home country of Zimbabwe. Sakhile has gained personal experience of providing care for a family member and she liked the idea of finding a job with a caring’ focus. Her adviser discussed various training and career options that would be available to her and she decided to enrol on a 13 week course with Care Training. This would enable to learn practical skills to become a care assistant. Whilst engaged on this course her adviser continued to assist her with completing application forms for jobs and providing interview coaching.

We also provide Sakhile with financial assistance to purchase interview clothing and helped towards her child care whilst on the course. Following completion of Sakhile’s course in June she has continued to apply for jobs and has attended two interviews. One of which was for a Development Worker with Voyage who subsequently offered her a position.

Neil

Neil registered in March of this year and prior to this he had been unemployed for over 4 years and he had also been homeless. Neil career goal was to work within customer service / retail or hospitality sectors but was finding it hard to achieve this on his own. He came into the One Stop Shop asking advice on how to improve his interview skills and learn how to write better application forms which he had received.

With the help of his adviser, Neil learned to promote himself in a much more positive light, his self-confidence improved and he began to believe more in his capabilities. In June Neil applied for a job as a member of a Guest Service Crew with a local Hotel and was successful. He is was offered an immediate start date and is still employed today.
